5-Year-Old Kid-Safe Broke Mare Penny is a beautiful 5-year-old sorrel mare standing around 14 hands tall. She is the perfect size for a small adult or a child and has the sweetest heart. She is extremely broke, rides smooth, and has an excellent stop. Penny has been around cattle and has done some roping, making her a versatile horse with a solid foundation. She’s gentle enough that you can confidently put a kid on her and absolutely loves kids. There are seven kids in my family, so Penny is around children every day. She’s patient, gentle, and comfortable in a busy family environment, making her an excellent choice for a youth rider or family. She stands tied quietly, is great for the farrier, loves getting baths, and is easy to handle. She’ll make the perfect step-up horse for a kid who has outgrown a miniature pony or is ready for their first “big horse.” She’s forgiving, dependable, confidence-building, and fun to ride. When Penny was younger, she had an accident where she jumped a fence and injured herself. I poured my heart into helping her recover, spending countless hours with her every step of the way. Before that, she could be a little more immature and easily startled, but that experience—and the time we spent building trust together—helped shape her into the horse she is today. She has become incredibly kind, loyal, and level-headed. One of my favorite things about Penny is how much she wants to be with her person. If we’re out in the pasture and I get off her, she doesn’t run away—she stays right by my side. She truly enjoys being with people and has a heart of gold. Another thing I absolutely love about Penny is her sweet, gentle personality. When I go out to feed, while all the other horses are running around and getting excited, Penny simply walks over to her feed bucket and patiently waits for me. She gets along wonderfully with the other horses and is never one to cause trouble. She truly is one of the sweetest horses you’ll ever meet. At just 5 years old, Penny has her whole life ahead of her and so much potential. She has grown into a mature, level-headed mare with a great mind and a willing attitude. She’s ready to continue excelling with her next family for many years to come. We’ve been through a lot together, so this is not an easy decision. I’m simply looking to downsize, and my biggest priority is finding Penny a loving home where she’ll be appreciated and continue to get the attention she deserves.
