Barnaby is a 16–18-year-old bay roan Quarter Horse gelding that checks every box for someone searching for a safe, experienced, family horse.
We get dozens of calls from people looking for an older gelding that absolutely anyone can ride. It sounds like it should be an easy request to fill, but over the last few years, those horses have become few and far between. Every once in a while, though, you find one that reminds you exactly why they're so special—and Barnaby is one of those horses.
Barnaby has quickly become a barn favorite during his time with us. Over the last week alone, he has safely packed around several kids and adults, giving every rider the same quiet, confidence-building experience. He is patient, forgiving, and genuinely enjoys his job.
Most of Barnaby's life was spent working on a feedlot, where he saw more cattle before breakfast than most of us here in the Northeast will see in a lifetime. Those years of honest work have produced a gelding that is seasoned, dependable, and completely unbothered by whatever you ask of him.
He has three comfortable gaits, an automatic neck rein, side passes, opens and closes gates, spins, backs with the lightest cue, and is a pleasure to ride whether you're in the arena or out on the trail. Obstacles don't phase him—he simply goes wherever you point him.
On the ground, Barnaby is just as enjoyable. He's easy to catch—in fact, he'll usually meet you at the gate. He loads and hauls well, gets along nicely in a herd, and has the kind, friendly personality everyone appreciates.
