Honda is bringing back its FourTrax Rancher ATV for 2023 in eight trim levels, giving farmers and ranchers the ability to match suspension, drive and steering system, transmission, and other components to their needs. All the trims include a heavy-duty trailer hitch rated for towing up to 848 pounds (384.6 kilograms) of feed, fertilizer, fence posts, tools, or other materials, as well as an AC generator for powering electrical accessories. Each variant also includes front and rear steel cargo racks and a 1.9-liter front utility box for storing work gloves, sunglasses, pliers, a smartphone, and more.

Three of the eight trims feature Honda’s automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Two of these include an independent rear suspension (IRS) with rear disc brakes and 8 inches (203.2 millimeters) of travel and 9 in. (228.6 mm) of clearance, and speed- and torque-sensitive electric power steering (EPS), handy for tackling deep tractor ruts, bumpy pastureland, and other rough terrain.. The Rancher 4x4 ES and Rancher ES variants come equipped with Honda’s exclusive Electric Shift Program, which allow for convenient button-press upshifts and downshifts, which are especially convenient when you’re wearing large, heavy work boots or are speeding down wet, muddy backtrails. Trims without DCT include a conventional ATV manual-shift transmission, and those without an IRS include a swingarm rear suspension with rear drum brakes.

Honda says DCT delivers smooth power, true compression braking, and optimal traction, for a noticeable improvement in rocky or muddy conditions. DCT also provides a manual shifting mode for on-demand shifting using fingertip paddle shifters. It’s also worth noting that the DCT and EPS variants include an electronic reverse gear mechanism, which lets you use one lever to shift into reverse— great for clearing snow around feedlots and other jobs that require repeated shifting between forward and reverse.

    Built For Work & Play

All FourTrax Ranchers are powered by a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 420-cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine. The engine has a semi-dry-sump design that Honda says produces a lower center of gravity and better ground clearance. The engine is also longitudinally mounted which improves handling.

Other features of note include Honda’s TraxLok Selectable 2WD/4WD and a Speed Override mode that Honda says delivers outstanding performance in deep mud and other extreme terrain. All trims aside from the base FourTrax Rancher have a multifunction LCD screen that delivers vital information and can perform up to 13 functions.
