Building on the warm reception of its all-electric Ranger XP Kinetic utility vehicle (UTV), Polaris Commercial has developed a lithium-ion battery-electric version of its full-size Pro XD side-by-side. The Pro XD Kinetic has the same 1,250-pound (567-kilogram) cargo capacity and 2,500-lb (1,134-kg) towing capacity as a full-size gasoline or diesel Pro XD UTV, according to the manufacturer, and it can work all day with a range of up to 45 miles (72 kilometers).

The UTV can recharge from a common 110-volt wall outlet or generator—eliminating a primary concern about EV charger availability in the great outdoors—but also supports fast charging when a 220-V source is available.

The Pro XD Kinetic’s Electric Advantages

Like other electric off-road vehicles, the new Pro XD Kinetic requires less maintenance than its gas and diesel counterparts, which need occasional oil changes, clutch adjustments, and spark plug and filter replacements. Polaris claims a 60% reduction in operation and service costs, with $2,800 savings on fuel alone over a 5-year period.

Another selling point for EVs in general and the Pro XD Kinetic in particular is that its 140 pounds-foot (190 newton-meters) of torque comes on instantaneously and is fully available throughout the motor’s entire rpm range. Its 14.9-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery is designed to last the lifetime of the new UTV, according to Polaris, which warranties it for five years. Electric vehicles’ more well-known advantages are low noise and zero emissions during operation.

Pro XD Kinetic Safety, Durability, & Optional Features

Owners can limit the top speed of the Pro XD Kinetic to 5 to 40 mph (8 to 64 km/h). A backup alarm, a horn, and orange seatbelts come standard.

Polaris builds the new electric model to be just as rugged and damage-resistant as the rest of its Pro XD family. It has a tough poly bed, 8-ply tires, and seats backed with Kevlar. It’s also compatible with existing Pro XD accessories such as lighting options, electronic power steering, bumpers and guards, windows, mirrors, doors, JBL audio, winches, snowplows, and much more.

Polaris On The Pro XD Kinetic’s Development

“Going all-electric with the professional-grade Pro XD UTV empowers customers to meet sustainability obligations without sacrificing capabilities,” says Aaron Stegemann, vice president, Polaris Commercial. “In everything we do, Polaris Commercial is committed to providing the greatest value for our customers. That means genuinely listening to their pain points, understanding the use cases and applications for our work UTVs, and solving unmet demands where we can.

“With the introduction of the Pro XD Kinetic, we’re keeping the features our customers love and rely on from the Pro XD family—superior durability, serviceability, and safety features—while addressing the ever-growing environmental, operational, and government requirements for EVs.”
